What the day is like

A citadel people still live in. The clock tower, the covered stair and a Saxon village on the way back.

Sighișoara is the citadel people still live in — not a museum with a ticket barrier, but a hill town with post being delivered. We spend the morning inside the walls and the afternoon in a Saxon village nearby, which is where the contrast lands.

The citadel

The clock tower first, for the view and the mechanism, then down through the craft streets. The covered stair — 175 steps built so children could get to the school at the top in winter — is the part everyone remembers.

Afterwards

A fortified village on the way back, chosen on the day for which one has someone available to open the church.

Collected from your accommodation. Roughly ninety minutes on the road.

09:45The clock tower

Up first, before the coaches. The mechanism still works, and the view sets up everything else.

11:00The citadel streets

The guild houses, the covered stair and the church on the hill. About two hours on foot, unhurried.

13:00Lunch

In the citadel. Not included, and we will tell you honestly which places are worth it.

14:30A Saxon village

One fortified village on the route home, with the church opened for us where we can arrange it.

17:00Back in Brașov

Dropped where you were collected, usually around five.

Is this a long day?

Nine hours door to door, of which about three are driving. It is a full day but not a hard one.

Which village do we visit?

It depends on who can open the church that day — these are working villages, not attractions with opening hours. We will tell you the evening before.

Is lunch included?

No. We stop somewhere sensible and you order what you want.
